TRACK 1: Pediatric Nursing

Pediatric nursing is a branch of medical care, which deals with the care of neonates, infants, and children up to adolescence. The first 28 days of life is called neonate.  Prevention and health education are the two main components of the pediatric nursing. It plays a vital role in children health because it provides the opportunity for the healthy living of a person. The pediatric nursing is associated with the treatment, self-care, and counseling.  Apart from the care, it deals with the physical and mental abnormalities of the children condition. In addition, the pediatric nurse spends time educating parents and caregivers about their children health condition and giving instructions to protect and take care of the children.

TRACK 2: Premature Birth and Complications

Babies which born before the 37th week of gestation are considered as “premature baby” and sometimes known as “preemies”. Premature babies face increased risk of complications when compared to normal one. The complication increased as early as the baby born and it is subjected to both the physical and mental illness due to the incomplete growth of internal organs. Usually, the premature baby after birth will be treated in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for providing a special care required by the premature newborn.

TRACK 3: Neonatal Diseases and NICU

The disease occurs during the first four weeks after birth is called as neonatal diseases.  The infection may be contracted by transplacental transfer in utero (perinatal), or by other means after birth. Some neonatal infections can be apparent soon after delivery while others may develop in a week or month. There is a higher risk of complication for the premature and low birth weight neonates. Infection to the infants may cause by various means such as bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoan and other infectious agents. Some diseases in neonate occur due to the genetic and environmental factors. Newborn babies who need intensive medical attention are admitted to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) where all the required treatment (for infants) is provided by the trained healthcare professionals.

TRACK 4: Allergies in Pediatrics

Allergies or allergic diseases are the most common chronic condition worldwide and it is usually harmless, but sometimes putting you at the risk of life-threatening reactions like anaphylaxis. These reactions are caused by the production of antibodies by the immune system. The substances which cause the allergy is called allergens and some of the common allergens are pollen, dust, insect stings and medications. The infants and children are highly sensitive to the change in environmental factors so there is increased risk of getting allergy due to the immune response of the immune system. The most common allergic symptoms are sneezing, itching, runny nose, cough, red or swollen eyes.

TRACK 5: Immunization of Infants

Immunization is a process in which the human immune system is induced against the external infectious agent (antigen) and it has the ability to quickly respond to a subsequent encounter of the antigen due to the immunological memory. The two main components of the immune system are T cells and B cells which are improved by the immunization. Memory B cells and T cells are responsible for the swift response of the subsequent attack of the same antigen. There are some methods to improve the immunization such as vaccination, for example polio vaccine for poliomyelitis.

TRACK 6: Pediatric Cardiology

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the abnormalities and disorders of the heart as well as the circulatory system. This field includes diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart valve disease and atrial-ventricular septum defects. The cardiovascular system is in relation to hematology and its diseases. So that, the change in the blood and its components will result in a change in the pumping action of the heart such as reduced oxygen-carrying capacity, anemia etc. Electrocardiography is a process of recording the electrical activity of the heart which is used to find the abnormalities occur in the heart.

TRACK 7: Pediatric Dermatology

Dermatology is a branch of medicine which deals with the skin, nail, hair, sweat gland and its abnormalities. The skin is the largest organ of the human body and acts as a protective layer. It has three layers named epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous layer. Pediatric dermatology is mainly focused on the diagnosis and treatment of various skin diseases of the neonates, infants and the children who are very sensitive to the changes in the physiological factors of the environment and to the infectious agents.

TRACK 8: Pediatric Oncology

Oncology is a study of cancer which deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A medical professional who performs oncology practices is called oncologist. The unlimited growth of abnormal cells is called cancer. It has two types one is benign tumors which do not spread to other parts of the body and another is malignant which are highly unstable and travel via the bloodstream, circulatory system, and lymphatic system. The pediatric oncology mainly concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer that is present in the infants, new and the children. It is a highly dangerous disease which may lead to death.

TRACK 9: Pediatric Neurology

Neurology is the study of the brain which deals with prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the nervous system. A neuron is the structural and functional unit of the nervous system. It includes the central nervous system(CNS) and peripheral nervous system(PNS). A medical professional who performs neurological practices is called the neurologist. Pediatric neurology is a branch and is associated with the diagnosis and treatment of neurological abnormalities of the newborn and the children. The occurrence of neurological abnormalities at the early stage is highly dangerous and it may affect the pediatric patient’s whole life. It disturbs both physical and mental functions and results in a various type of disorders such as movement disorders, bipolar disorder, paralysis, cerebral palsy etc.

TRACK 10: Surgical Nursing

A surgical nurse also referred to as a theatre nurse providing a care to patients before and after surgery. The process of specializing care before and after surgery is called surgical nursing. The theatre nurse needs to support and assist the patient, surgeons, nurse anesthetists, surgical technician and nurse practitioners. During the surgery, the nurse must help to prepare the patient and the operating room. During the surgery, the nurse assists and instructs anesthetist and surgeons. Finally, after surgery, the nurse enduring that the patients are provided with proper care and treatments.

TRACK 11: Nursing Informatics

Nursing informatics is a specialty in which it uses the combination of medicine, computer science and information technology for the purpose of integration of nursing. It is beneficial to the multiple data management i.e the patient medical data with types of diseases, analytical sciences to identify, communicate to data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice. Nursing informatics is used to improve information communication and management in nursing. Enhancing the quality of patient care and improving the efficiency and reducing the cost are the main objectives of the nursing informatics.

TRACK 12: Emergency Medicine and Telenursing

Emergency medicine is a part of medical service that is concerned with providing medical care for unscheduled patients with severe injuries who require immediate medical attention. Emergency physicians are responsible for initiating, assisting and coordinating the emergency care of the patient. They generally practice in hospital emergency departments and intensive care units. Different types of emergency medicine exist all over the world and are still evolving and improving the basic emergency care where resources are limited. Telenursing is the process of transmitting medical information and providing remote patient care with the use of telecommunication technology.

TRACK 13: Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing

Mental health nursing or psychiatric nursing is the responsible position of a nurse that specializes in mental health and provide care for the people who are experiencing mental illness or mental distress. The mental health nurse deals with the individuals, families, groups, communities and assessing their mental health needs. The psychiatric nurse receives special training in psychological therapies and implementing in the care of mentally ill patients. They can work in a variety of services which includes: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Acute Medical Units (AMUs), Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs), and Community Mental Health Services (CMHS)

TRACK 14: Current trends in pediatric nursing

Pediatric nursing enables an anticipated newborn to grow into a healthy adult and helps to improve the quality of the healthcare in the medical field. Healthcare statistics:

Healthcare system is the organization of people, institutions, medical professionals and resources that provide health care services to meet the health requirements of persons to attain a healthy life. The Director-General of WHO (World Health Organization) describes universal health coverage as “single most powerful concept that public health has to offer” since it unifies “services and delivers them in a comprehensive and integrated way”. Universal health care can be given by three critical dimensions,

  • Who is covered
  • What services are covered
  • How much of cost is covered

During 2016 federal and local governments in the US spent $1.5 trillion on health and health care programs. The expenditure for the healthcare is increased worldwide and mortality rate has decreased day by day. Conferences, healthcare programs, awareness programs and health organizations, associations and societies are plays vital role in the improvement of health care system.
